The study will provide information to practicing social workers with relevant skills when working with clients in low-income communities who have been categorized as overweight or obese on their caseload. The presenters will use the socio-ecological model of health to discuss the micro, mezzo, and macro barriers to healthy life style behaviors among ethnic-minority populations in low-income communities contributing to elevated BMI rates.

The presenters will use the socio-ecological model of health to discuss the micro, mezzo, and macro barriers to healthy life style behaviors among ethnic-minority populations in low-income communities contributing to elevated BMI rates. Examples introduced this workshop will include advocacy approaches and familial interventions that take into consideration familial interactions as a means of developing interventions that amenable to decreasing obesity rates.
